### Game

- **Procedurally generated maps** — 4×4 grid of Anglo-Saxon settlements, ~8-10 populated cells per campaign; coast, river, and name placement vary each run
- **Turn-based campaign** — 7 turns per year: early spring through late autumn plus a winter planning turn; campaigns run 10-20 years
- **Four difficulty levels** — Learn (no Norse year 1, 4-settlement map), Sheltered (≤1 fleet), Standard, and Brutal (harsher costs, lower starting resources)
- **Resource management** — population, food, wealth, and prestige tracked per settlement; tax collected at Michaelmas (late autumn)
- **Norse AI** — fleets with personality modifiers (cautious/aggressive/opportunistic), fatigue accumulation, winter retreat, and information asymmetry
- **Battle system** — warband, local fyrd, garrison, and fort bonus vs. Norse warrior count; fatigue and fort modifiers stack; flee and give-battle options
- **Military actions** — warband movement (adjacent and long-march), fyrd rally and demobilise, housecarl and mercenary recruitment, garrison hiring
- **Buildings** — palisade (defence), watchtower (Norse early warning), granary (food capacity); winter-only construction
- **Events** — plague, Norse tribute demands, prisoner execution, settlement abandonment, silent raids, king illness
- **King mechanics** — battle risk and annual recovery; king death ends the campaign
- **Prestige economy** — gained from victories, tribute, and prisoner execution; affects Norse aggression and diplomatic signals
- **Campaign chronicle** — scrollable event log with year/turn stamps
- **Flee mechanic** — warband retreats to adjacent safe cell, transferring half the settlement's population and food
